Color and style forecast for Spring/Summer 2012

Pantone Color of the Year, 2012
Do you like orange?  Better get used to it, because this "spirited reddish orange" has been named the color of the year for 2012: Tangerine Tango.  “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Of course, there are plenty of other choices!

You can download a pdf report from Pantone free at this link, and you'll see the above chart in much better detail.  As we've discussed before, I know that not all of you pay attention to color and fashion trends, but for those who do, I think it's clear that the rest of the palette is much cooler than this warm reddish orange.  So what to do?  Stock up on gold, copper, and warm metal findings?  Stick with the color palette you like best?  Work with the extended analogous palette or the complementary one?  Some bluey green jewelry would certainly make a Tangerine Tango dress pop!

That Lavendar Blue is to die for, for me.

I like orange on the orange/pink side. The new tango is not good for me. But so what. I live in Indiana and the Honeysuckle I loved so much last year never reached us here except in fabric stores.

No kidding? Then you definitely won't have to worry about the tangerine. I'm not crazy about it either, and might end up sticking with Honeysuckle for a bit longer.
