Bead Journal Project: bracelet for May

This is my Bead Journal Project piece for May. Flowers, flowers, flowers everywhere.  I started with some more fabric that I painted as the background.  I added some dyed paua shell beads to represent the stepping stones through my garden, and some fanciful small flowers that are peyote stitched.  There's a tutorial for the beaded flowers elsewhere.

Here are the instructions for how I am making these bracelets.

Beautiful! The painted fabric matches the Paua shells perfectly... I'm going to have to try that blanket stitch edging, I love how it looks!

Thanks Karin and Genevieve :-)

Genevieve, I've found that you pretty much need to use the larger 8/0s or even 6/0s to do this type of edging. The needle that has a big enough eye to handle several strands of floss won't go through my 11/0s.

Betty, thank you! I didn't see your comment before I wrote the last note :-)
Beautiful! I would love to wear that to my next Red Hat luncheon. Red hats, purples dresses and all the bling we can manage are de rigueur.

I love the bright colors you've used for your garden - reminds me of a tropical setting and a walk to the beach.

Thank you, guys! I often dream of the tropics here in New England ;-)

Oh my, that is gorgeous!

If I may ask, what kind of fabric did you use? I love it.

Thank you both!

Lithi, the fabric is some plain muslin that I painted. The tutorial is here.

How lovely, Cyndi!!! The colors and texture are wonderful. Plus I love it that you allowed your gorgeous painted fabric to show! The edging is also beautiful and complimentary! Way to go!!!

Thank you both! Robin, it took me awhile to realize that not every square inch had to be covered ;-)

This is beautiful. It reminds me of the tiny inchie quilts that are being written about lately too. Very, very nice work!

Thank you! It's fun to work small sometimes, isn't it? :-)
